1. Importance of Prayer
- Most important tool given to us by God
- Devil will try to prevent your prayers
- Our desire to be with God will increase
- Key to releasing God’s power and blessings
- Knowledge of Him will increase
- We will become “one” with Him in prayer
- Cannot truly succeed unless we pray
- Prayer increases faith, faith increases prayer
2. How to Pray
- Dialogue with God, not monologue
- Commit every day to prayer
- Listen for His voice, trained spiritual ears
- Specific in prayers (Luke 11:11,12)
- Pray without ceasing (1Thess. 5:17)
- Expect answers! (1John 5:14,15)
- Be bold (James 5:16b)
3. Getting Answers to Prayer
- Find His will in each situation you pray about (John 5:30b; 6:38; 7:17)
- Pray His Kingdom come, His will be done
- Pray FOR what is allowed in heaven
- Pray AGAINST what is not allowed in heaven
- Hindrances
- Sin (Prov. 28:9; John 9:31; Is. 59: 1,2; Lam. 3:40-44)
- Lack of faith (Mark 11: 24,25; James 1:6-8; Heb. 11:6)
- Selfishness (James 4:2-3)
- Lack of compassion (heartless) (Prov. 21:13)
- Domestic Problems (1Peter 3:7)
- Pride and self-righteousness (Job 35:12-13; Luke 18:13-14)
- Being out of His will (1John 3:22)
- Disobedience (1John 3:22)
- Unforgiveness (Mark 11:25-26)
- Those who get answers:
- Righteous
- Abide in Him
- Delight in Him
- Trust in Him
- Needy
- Suffering
- Oppressed
- Widows and Fatherless
4. Types of Prayer
- Personal Prayer (a.k.a. Quiet Time)
- Follow example Jesus gave (The Lord’s Prayer)
- Intercessory Prayer
- Praying for others
- Agreement is key
- Pray Scripture – powerful!
- Pray in the Spirit – also powerful!
5. Our Authority
- Know our authority
- NO FEAR!
- Stand on the Word of God
- Pray Scripture (follow Jesus’ example)
- Use Jesus’ name (John 14: 13,14)
6. Fasting
- Valuable
- Brings humility
- Spiritual wisdom and impartation
- Brings a breakthrough
- Overcomes selfishness in us (food-hold)
- Intensifies prayer life
- Methods of Fasting
- Partial (Daniel’s fast)
- Absolute (water only, no food)
- Supernatural (40 days)
- Corporate
- Expected (not “if” but “when” you fast)
